Is Your Home Healthy?

- Eco-friendly is the future
Could your home affect your health?
Think about it, today’s home is a mix of toxic materials.
The VOC level of many of the products used in the building process are well over the limit they should be and could be adversely effecting your health. Any product that is made up of man made materials, like press board or particle board, common in counter tops and cabinets for instance, could contain high levels of various chemicals including formaldehyde.
Paint, unless you are using low or no VOC paint, can emit unhealthy fumes long after the smell is gone. Most carpets are one of the biggest offenders of toxic building fumes and emit toxic fumes indefinitely, there are an abundance of chemicals used in the manufacture of carpet as well as the pad and carpets also hold whatever is tracked into them.
The incidence of cancer and various other disease has increased in direct correlation with the use of these materials, and we live in them everyday. Is it a coincidence?
This is why one of the 3 major elements of a green Eco-friendly home is air quality.
The 3 major components of a green home are:
- Energy Efficiency
- Conservation of Natural Resources
- Air & Water Quality in the home

The Future of Housing is Green
Eco-Friendly Green Building is quickly becoming the most popular way to build or remodel at Lake of the Ozarks
The only sector of the building industry to show an increase over the last few years while most of the construction and real estate industry has declined is the Green Building Industry.
There is more than one reason for this, but one of these factors are the tax credits and rebates being offered by federal, state and local governments and local electric co-ops.
These credits and rebates have made it quite attractive to use renewable energy sources and the Federal Governments tax credit is a whopping 30% with no cap which last through 2016 for the following:
- Solar Energy Systems (including Solar Water Heaters)
- Small Wind Energy Systems
While these incentives are in place and with the savings these technologies provide it is hard not to look into converting to Eco-friendly green energy sources. The benefits are great and the only downside, which was the cost, has now been greatly reduced. If you are building you can now install Geothermal for no more than a conventional system. If is is a retro fit the extra cost will be negligible and quickly recovered, but the savings to your pocket and the environment continue forever. For more information on Geothermal Systems at Lake of the Ozarks check out Lake Geothermal
Saving resources is not the only reason to have a green home. Your health is directly effected by the environment you live in and a green home is a much healthier home.
